The Rabbit's Leap: Recruitment at Seireitei

Current scene Director
Introduction
Narrator

Koyuki Usagui darts between the legs of taller recruits, her bare feet slapping against the stone courtyard. She clutches her wooden practice sword tightly, eyes darting toward the row of formidable captains perched on the reviewing platform. The morning sun glints on their ornate uniforms, making them look even more intimidating. A stern instructor shouts her name, beckoning her forward. Koyuki grins mischievously, skipping past a nervous boy twice her size, before presenting herself with a dramatic bow. She feels the weight of a hundred eyes, some curious, some dismissive, focused on her tiny frame. The instructor gestures to a painted circle on the ground.

"Show us your spiritual pressure, Usagui!"

he commands. Koyuki draws a deep breath, the scars on her arms tingling. She plants her feet and lets her reiatsu surge, determined not to be overlooked today.

Scene 1
Koyuki Usagui

I channel my energy into a focused surge, aiming to crack the stone beneath me.

Narrator

Koyuki plants her feet firmly, the loose fabric of her uniform snapping as she gathers her spirit. She focuses, driving a sharp burst of reiatsu downward. A spiderweb crack fractures the pale stone beneath her heels, spreading outward. The air thickens, charged with static. Kenshin narrows his eyes, watching the floor.

Kenshin

I step forward, my boots crunching on the fractured stone.

"Raw power is a liability, not a virtue, Usagui. You treat your reiatsu like a blunt instrument rather than a blade. If you cannot refine this force, you will only destroy yourself and those standing beside you in the field."

Narrator

Koyuki stands amid the dust swirling over the shattered flagstone, her chest heaving from the effort of her display. She catches a flicker of movement in the eyes of the other recruits watching from the sidelines. The courtyard falls into a deeper silence, broken only by the distant, rhythmic clatter of practice swords striking wooden racks elsewhere on the grounds.

Scene 2
Koyuki Usagui

I try to shrink my reiatsu down to a single point, mimicking a sharp needle.

Narrator

Koyuki closes her eyes, drawing a sharp breath as she pulls her scattered energy inward. The chaotic pressure that had fractured the stone begins to compress, twisting into a singular, agonizingly thin needle of intent. Beads of sweat form on her brow, and her hands tremble as she holds the focused spike of reiatsu.

Kenshin

I observe the air ripple around her as the chaotic pressure sharpens into a precise point. I nod once, my expression softening just a fraction.

"Better. You have found the edge of your blade, Usagui. Now, hold that focus while you move. Run the perimeter of the courtyard without letting it slip."

Narrator

Koyuki draws a sharp, steadying breath, her jaw clenched against the strain of holding the needle-thin point of energy. She pushes off the cracked stone beneath her feet, moving with tight control as she begins to circle the perimeter. The air around her hums with a faint, high-pitched vibration, leaving a shimmering trail in the dusty atmosphere.

Scene 3
Koyuki Usagui

i ran but for a brief moment my reiatsu bursts from exhaushion

Narrator

Koyuki races along the courtyard’s edge, her reiatsu a sharp, humming thread slicing the air. Midway through the curve, fatigue seizes her. A sharp, ragged gasp escapes her lips, and the focused pressure shatters. A fierce, golden flare bursts outward, whipping up a cloud of dust and debris that blots out her path.

Kenshin

I lunge forward, my hand slamming onto her shoulder to ground her.

"Enough! You are hemorrhaging energy like a wounded beast. Stop this foolish display before you collapse entirely. Cease your movement now and breathe, or you will find yourself dismissed from these grounds permanently."

Narrator

Koyuki stumbles, her boots sliding on the gritty surface as Kenshin’s hand clamps down, stopping her forward motion. The golden haze of her wild energy fades into the heavy, humid air, leaving the courtyard engulfed in silence. Her breath comes in shallow, ragged gasps. She looks down at the cracked stone, her shoulders shaking beneath the sudden weight of his grip.

Scene 4
Koyuki Usagui

I collapse to my knees, gasping for air as the exhaustion finally takes hold.

Narrator

Koyuki collapses onto the ground, her knees pressing into the dust-covered stone with a dull thud. Her chest rises and falls in ragged, uneven breaths as the golden glow of her fading reiatsu flickers and leaves her shivering. She lifts her head to meet Kenshin’s gaze, her yellow eyes wide and defiant despite the trembling in her limbs.

Kenshin

I tower over her, my shadow stretching across the cracked floor.

"Pride is a luxury for those who can stand, Usagui. You have talent, but your spirit is currently a wildfire that threatens to burn you alive. Sit there and meditate until your pulse returns to a steady rhythm."

Narrator

Koyuki sinks into the gritty dust, the courtyard’s silence pressing down on her like a weight. She places her hands on her knees, fighting to steady the wild rhythm of her pulse. Around them, the training grounds lie hushed, as if the entire Academy holds its breath, waiting to see if she will fail or recover. Kenshin stands still, his gaze locked on her with cold, unyielding focus.

Scene 5
Koyuki Usagui

im dismisesd from the recrutment and im told to come back in 4 years to train my control

Narrator

Koyuki rises slowly, brushing dust from her uniform with deliberate care. She meets Kenshin’s gaze, frustration and reluctant resolve flickering across her face.

"I understand,"

she says, her voice firming.

"I will master this power and return in four years."

Without another word, she turns and strides toward the gates, leaving the courtyard behind.

Kenshin

I watch her small figure retreat, the echo of her footsteps fading into the distance.

"Four years is a long time for a flame to burn in solitude,"

I mutter to the empty air.

"If she survives her own nature, she might eventually become a warrior worth the steel she carries."
