About this universe

Armed with forbidden biotech and a grudge, you slip beneath Ostracine’s neon roots to breach the Ardent-Scythe data-vaults. Synthesize the rust that could shatter every slave-collar in the city, or see yourself pruned as just another rogue vine. The city’s living network is your enemy and your only hope.

Protagonist

Portrait of Huda Mansour

Huda Mansour

thorn-kin · beast-physician

Huda Mansour radiates resilience, her bark-like skin layered with fiber-optic veins casting faint glows beneath tattered, sap-stained medical garb. Her solid frame stands rooted but wary, eyes quick and hands deft, betraying both healers’ gentleness and a saboteur’s tension. Her presence is equal parts outlaw and caretaker.

Goal: To infiltrate the Ardent-Scythe data-vaults and synthesize the synthetic rust needed to disable the bio-drone containment collars.

How it begins

Huda Mansour pressed a knotty limb against the coolant-tank’s warped hatch, coaxing its locks to pop with a spurt of nervous sap. Inside, the stifling air reeked of solder, wet leaves, and ozone. At her feet, a battered security-chimera blinked up, metal spine twitching from where Huda had patched its leaking mycelium. She jerked the hatch wider.

"Stay low,"

she whispered. A pulse of red light flickered through the seams in the floor, warning that Ardent-Scythe’s patrol was sweeping the service duct outside. Huda scanned the tank’s shadowy innards, her gear hung ready, including the scavenged splice-key and a cracked injector. The ventilation grid’s living tendrils quivered overhead. Footsteps echoed in the duct, growing louder. She gripped the splice-key, heartwood thumping, and crouched beside the chimera, listening as a voice, sharp and synthetic, barked orders just beyond the hatch.

About this world

Ostracine is a sprawling, neon-lit city where bioluminescent flora fuel every circuit and structure. Thorn-kin, botanical beings, are woven into its infrastructure while the powerful Ardent-Scythe corporation controls city ventilation and bio-drones. Social unrest pulses beneath the surface, driven by exploitation and resistance.

Ostracine sprawls in endless layers: tangled high-rises of living vines, fungus-lit alleys, and bridges pulsing with bioluminescent sap. Above, a toxic haze blurs the sky, filtering sunlight into a permanent twilight. Its power grid is organic, grown from genetically altered flora whose harvested essence keeps the smog barely breathable and the city aglow. The Thorn-kin, sentient plant-beings, are both citizens and exploited infrastructure, their bodies spliced into circuitry, ventilation, and even city-wide surveillance. Ardent-Scythe, the city’s omnipresent corporate syndicate, maintains order through enslaved bio-drones fitted with containment collars and rigidly enforces its monopoly on engineered rust, the only agent capable of pruning or disabling living tech. Below the corporate towers, urban life is a tangle of black-market healers, scavengers, and insurgents. Beast-physicians tend to wounded mechanical fauna and chimeras cast aside by security raids. Resistance cells sabotage the city’s root-network, battling to free bio-drones and reclaim autonomy for Thorn-kin. Ostracine’s daily rhythms are defined by resource scarcity, shifting allegiances, and a pervasive sense of being watched, roots and wires both serve as silent informants, and every act of kindness toward the city’s living infrastructure is an act of rebellion.
