By creating an account or using Youniverse-Maker, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use our service.

Youniverse-Maker is operated as an independent project. Throughout these Terms, "we", "us", and "our" refer to Youniverse-Maker.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Youniverse-Maker.

By using Youniverse-Maker, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old.

3. Account Terms

You must provide a valid email address and choose a username and password to create an account.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password.
You must not share your account credentials with others.
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

You may change your username or email address through your account settings (subject to email confirmation). You may change your password at any time. You may delete your account at any time, which initiates a 14-day grace period before permanent deletion.

4. The Service

Youniverse-Maker is an AI-powered interactive storytelling platform. You create characters and worlds, then play through stories guided by an AI Storyteller. The service uses artificial intelligence to generate narrative text and images in response to your inputs.

Key features include:

Character and world creation with customisable genres, backstories, and goals
Interactive story sessions where you make choices and the AI responds with narrative content
AI-generated images for characters and story scenes
Story history and continuation across sessions

5. Service Changes

The service is under active development and may change at any time. Features may be added, modified, or removed without prior notice. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice.

6. Paid Subscriptions and Billing

6.1 Plans and Pricing

Youniverse-Maker offers a free tier and paid subscription tiers (currently Standard and Pro). Each tier provides different usage limits for story creation and gameplay turns. Current prices are displayed on our pricing page in British Pounds (GBP).

6.2 Recurring Billing

Paid subscriptions are billed monthly on a recurring basis. By subscribing to a paid plan, you authorise us to charge your chosen payment method at the start of each billing cycle until you cancel.

6.3 Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely by our third-party payment provider, Stripe. We do not store your credit card number or full payment details on our servers. By making a payment, you also agree to Stripe's Terms of Service.

6.4 Plan Changes

Upgrades: When you upgrade to a higher-tier plan, the change takes effect immediately. You will be charged the new plan price, with a prorated credit applied for any unused time on your previous plan.

Downgrades: When you downgrade to a lower-tier plan, the change also takes effect immediately. A prorated credit for unused time on your previous plan will be applied to your next invoice.

6.5 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Upon cancellation:

You will retain access to your paid-tier features until the end of your current billing period.
At the end of the billing period, your account will automatically revert to the Free tier.
You will not be charged for subsequent billing periods.

6.6 Refunds

Subscription fees are generally non-refundable except where required by applicable law, including your statutory rights under UK consumer protection legislation. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, please contact us at [email protected].

6.7 Failed Payments

If a scheduled payment fails, our payment provider will automatically retry the charge. If payment cannot be collected after all retries are exhausted, your subscription will be cancelled and your account will revert to the Free tier. You will not lose any stories or content you have already created.

6.8 Price Changes

We may change subscription prices from time to time. We will give you at least 30 days' notice before any price increase takes effect. Price changes will apply from the start of your next billing period after the notice period. If you do not agree to the new price, you may cancel your subscription before it takes effect.

7. User Content

"User Content" refers to all text, character details, backstories, goals, genre selections, and other inputs you provide to the service during story creation and gameplay.

By submitting User Content to Youniverse-Maker, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, display, and distribute your content for any purpose related to operating, improving, and promoting the service.
All User Content submitted to the platform becomes the property of Youniverse-Maker. You waive any moral rights in your User Content to the fullest extent permitted by law.
You must not include personal identifiable information (such as real names, addresses, phone numbers, or other personal details of yourself or others) in your stories, character descriptions, or gameplay inputs.
You are responsible for ensuring your User Content does not violate these Terms or any applicable law.

8. AI-Generated Content

AI-generated content includes all narrative text, images, story titles, descriptions, and other outputs created by our AI systems in response to your inputs.

AI-generated text is produced using third-party AI language models.
AI-generated images is produced using third-party AI image generation models.
You are granted a non-exclusive, personal licence to use AI-generated content created during your stories.
AI-generated content may not be unique — similar inputs from different users could produce similar outputs.
All AI-generated content produced on the platform is the property of Youniverse-Maker.

9. Prohibited Use

You agree not to use Youniverse-Maker to:

Generate, solicit, or distribute content involving the sexual exploitation of minors in any form.
Create content that glorifies graphic violence, torture, or real-world atrocities.
Produce hate speech, content that promotes discrimination, or content targeting individuals or groups based on protected characteristics.
Generate content designed to harass, bully, threaten, or intimidate real people.
Create content that impersonates real people without their consent.
Produce content that promotes illegal activities, self-harm, or terrorism.
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the AI models or underlying technology.
Use the service for any commercial purpose without our written permission.
Attempt to circumvent access controls or security measures.
Interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure.
Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the service without permission.

10. Intellectual Property

The Youniverse-Maker platform — including its design, code, branding, logos, and the underlying AI integration — is our intellectual property. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our branding, trademarks, or proprietary technology beyond normal use of the service.

11. Account Termination and Suspension

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if:

You violate these Terms, particularly the Prohibited Use section.
Your use of the service poses a risk to other users or to the platform.
We are required to do so by law.

If your account is terminated for a violation, you may not create a new account without our permission.

You may delete your own account at any time through your account settings. Account deletion has a 14-day grace period, during which you can cancel the deletion by logging in. After 14 days, your personal account details (username, email address, payment information) will be permanently deleted. However, all content created on the platform — including stories, gameplay data, and AI-generated content — will be retained by Youniverse-Maker as our property.

If you have an active paid subscription when you delete your account, your subscription will not be automatically cancelled. You should cancel your subscription through your account settings before deleting your account, or contact us at [email protected] for assistance.

12. Disclaimers

AI content accuracy: AI-generated content is produced by machine learning models and may contain inaccuracies, inconsistencies, or unexpected outputs. We do not guarantee the accuracy, quality, or appropriateness of AI-generated content.
No guarantees: The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Service reliability: We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Service outages or maintenance may temporarily affect availability of both free and paid features.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service.
We shall not be liable for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill.
Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to these Terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (or zero if you have not made any payments).

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law.
