Silas Crone

Human · Bounty Hunter

Silas Crone carries a hunter’s stillness, lean and broad-shouldered, with deep-set eyes that miss nothing. Dust clings to his long coat and battered hat; a faint brimstone burn scars his right cheek. He moves with measured caution, his voice dry as old gravel, hiding a stubborn moral code beneath the grit.

Goal: To track down his bounty, who has disappeared into the chaotic boom town of Perdition.

How it begins

Silas Crone pressed his boot into the warped planks of Perdition’s main street, eyes narrowed against the sulfurous haze curling from beneath the boardwalk. The brimstone veins nearby pulsed a dull orange, setting his shadow to writhing at his feet. He adjusted the brim of his hat, scanning the saloon doors as a cowled figure slipped inside, ignoring the way the sign flickered between ‘Last Chance’ and ‘First Exit’. Someone, something, cackled from a nearby alley, cut short by the wet snap of a revolver. Silas’s bounty was rumored to frequent this watering hole, but the town’s shifting alleys and deceitful echoes made every step a gamble. He reached for his iron, feeling the handle pulse faintly with borrowed brimstone, and strode toward the saloon, boots leaving singed prints in the dust.

About this world

The Dustlands stretch across a warped American West, their red-gold earth laced with veins of brimstone. Here, reality buckles in unpredictable ways, and the scramble for brimstone riches has birthed lawless boom towns. Gunslingers, fortune-seekers, and zealots clash in the shadow of a mineral that reshapes everything.

The Dustlands are a cracked, arid frontier where the ground glows faintly with the veins of brimstone running beneath it. Brimstone’s discovery during the Gold Rush not only drew waves of prospectors but also triggered strange phenomena: time flickers, gravity shifts, and sometimes the land itself folds impossibly. Boom towns like Perdition erupt overnight around new deposits, drawing a transient, desperate population of miners, gamblers, drifters, and preachers who claim brimstone for their own arcane purposes.

Law here is thin and ragged. Most settlements rely on hired guns or makeshift militias, though even they struggle to enforce order against brimstone’s influence. The mineral fetches a price higher than gold; it powers bizarre devices, fuels occult rituals, and can even warp a body or mind. Outlaws exploit the chaos, and rumors abound of creatures twisted by long exposure to brimstone. Preachers and con artists travel side by side, each promising salvation, or profit, to the unwary.

In the Dustlands, survival demands pragmatism and grit. The weather veers from rainless heat to dust-choked storms, and supplies are always scarce. Trust is a rare commodity, traded with caution. Every town has its own unwritten code, but the only universal truth is this: brimstone changes everything, and not for the better.
