Protagonist

Portrait of Samira Najjar

Samira Najjar

dragonborn · retired cosmonaut

Samira Najjar’s presence radiates the quiet gravity of a star on its last burn, tall and broad-shouldered, with silicate scales that shimmer between deep green and obsidian. Her gold-flecked eyes hold centuries of unspoken voyages, and her every move is deliberate, cloaked in both caution and aching nostalgia.

Goal: To infiltrate the Ocular Syndicate's data-archive and broadcast the coordinates of the 'Sunless Passage'.

How it begins

Samira Najjar presses her palm against the cold obsidian panel outside the archive’s service hatch. A tremor runs through the floor as the Smoldering Moons eclipse the city’s upper skylights, casting mottled shadows over her silicate scales. She draws her cloak tighter, masking the faint pulse of the corrupted chip beneath her ribs. A nearby maintenance drone hovers closer, its lens whirring as it scans her retina. Samira breathes shallowly, recalling the Syndicate’s protocols, three false codes before the alarm triggers a neural wipe. She enters the first override sequence, her claws steady but her mind echoing with distant star-chants. The hatch emits a soft click. Inside, cyan light spills along narrow aisles of memory-stacks, each one humming with secrets surrendered by countless travelers. A voice crackles overhead:

“Unauthorized presence detected. Please submit for cognitive audit.”

Samira steps forward, scales reflecting the archive’s sterile luminescence, every second precious as her implants tick toward erasure.

About this world

Vespera-Minor is a broken star system, its planets drifting in perpetual twilight. Dragonborn act as living heat-sinks for unstable jump-gates, their scaled forms maintaining what remains of interstellar travel. The Ocular Syndicate enforces conformity by erasing the memories of those who traveled beyond, ensuring secrets of deep space stay hidden.

Vespera-Minor is a star system fractured by the collapse of its primary jump-gates. The once-vibrant stars now emit only a sullen glow, casting the system’s ringed worlds and asteroid archipelagos in gloomy penumbra. On the airless plains of Aegis Prime, dragonborn, immense, silicate-scaled beings, anchor failing gates, their bodies absorbing lethal heat and radiation that would otherwise render travel impossible. Most common folk live in domed city-states or burrowed refuges, their daily lives ruled by the Ocular Syndicate, a vast bureaucracy obsessed with preserving its version of history.
