Gwen

Human · Mage

Gwen radiates gentle curiosity, her pale skin and blue eyes framed by a loose brown ponytail. Her modest robes and careful movements hint at both humility and the quiet strength of someone hoping to belong. Shy but compassionate, she approaches everything with empathy, and a hopefulness she tries hard to hide.

Goal: To become valuable at the academy, make friends, and learn a lot about magic. She also wants to find a girlfriend, fall in love, and hopefully get married someday.

How it begins

Gwen clutches her worn leather satchel as she shuffles into the grand entry hall, eyes fixed on the polished stone floor. Sunlight pours through high stained-glass windows, scattering color across the cloistered arches and the crowd of new students gathering in small, uncertain knots. Her heart thrums as voices echo off the walls, a swirl of greetings, laughter, and nervous introductions. Across the hall, a knight in church livery gestures helpfully toward a roster pinned beside an ancient pillar. Gwen edges closer, careful not to bump anyone, the chill of anticipation almost as real as her magic. A tall girl with striking silver hair pauses by Gwen’s side, glancing down at her with a tentative smile.

“Are you looking for your name too? I’m nervous as a kitten.”

The sound of the bell signals the start of orientation. Gwen forces herself to look up, cheeks flushed, and nods. Around her, the world of Garreg Mach waits to be discovered.

About this world

Fódlan is a continent divided between three rival nations, united only by the Garreg Mach Monastery at its center. Ancient traditions, mystical Crests, and a powerful church shape daily life. Students from all backgrounds gather at the Monastery, caught between old loyalties, new friendships, and quietly shifting politics.

The continent of Fódlan stretches from the snow-laced peaks of Faerghus in the north to the sun-warmed fields of Leicester in the east, and south to the orderly farmlands of the Adrestian Empire. The land is known for its rich history, intricate nobility, and the ever-present influence of the Church of Seiros. At the geographical and cultural heart lies Garreg Mach Monastery, a sprawling stone bastion built atop a mountain pass. Here, ancient halls ring with the sounds of bells, lectures, and the laughter of students from every nation, all training to become the next generation of leaders, knights, and mages. Life at the Monastery revolves around learning, prayer, and social bonds. Magic users are prized for their command of elemental arts, fire, wind, ice, and healing, though all must heed the Church’s rules on ethical spellcasting and Crest research. Social customs are steeped in formality, especially among nobles, but the academy’s diverse student body brings together peasants, merchants, and aristocrats in uneasy but lively coexistence. Whispers of political unrest and change are never far, and the fragile peace maintained by the Church can feel as thin as Fódlan’s morning mists. Yet for most students, the hope of friendship, discovery, and perhaps even romance, kindles brighter than any threat from the outside world.
