Prince Charming

Human · Warrior

Prince Charming carries a hardened resolve, his eyes sharp beneath a battered fur-lined hood. A broad-shouldered warrior, he moves with wary confidence, every motion purposeful. Scarred arms peek from patched leather, while his steady grip on a makeshift weapon hints at hard-won survival. The underworld’s chill hasn’t dulled his sense of hope.

Goal: To locate fellow survivors and secure warmth and safe passage through the treacherous caverns.

How it begins

Prince Charming shoved aside a curtain of frost-laden moss, boots crunching on the brittle ice as steam rose from the vents below. His breath fogged in the frigid air, prickling his nostrils. Flickering torchlight painted sharp shadows on jagged walls while echoes of distant movement kept him tense. He tightened his grip on a battered pipe, scanning the cavern between the shivering glow of bioluminescent fungi. Behind him, the tunnel sagged with ominous creaks, threatening collapse. Ahead, a faint human cough cut through the silence. He pressed forward, muscles burning from cold and exhaustion, determined to reach whoever, or whatever, was ahead before the darkness closed in.

About this world

Beneath Antarctica’s endless ice, a labyrinthine underworld stretches around geothermal volcanoes and shifting glacial caverns. The air is thick with steam and frost, where isolated survivors struggle against bitter cold and treacherous terrain. Societies have fractured into fiercely territorial enclaves, each vying for survival in the blue-lit gloom.

The Subglacial Expanse is a hidden world sprawling underneath Antarctica’s massive ice sheet. Shaped by millennia of geothermal activity, its geography is a network of volcanic calderas, winding ice tunnels, and steaming subterranean lakes. Pockets of warmth from active volcanoes provide rare oases where fragile life endures, while elsewhere, the dark caverns are frozen and perilous. Walls of blue-tinged ice refract the glow of bioluminescent fungi and the flicker of makeshift torches.

Society here is fractured, small groups of survivors have clustered around sources of warmth and food, often forming clans fiercely protective of their resources. Trust is precious and rare, with stories of betrayal, theft, and violence marking the history of the underworld. A barter economy thrives on scavenged relics and harvested cave flora. Technology is cobbled-together: radio fragments, repurposed mining gear, and geothermal generators. Warriors protect their own, and knowledge of safe routes through the glacier can be more valuable than weapons.

Once-scientific teams and lost explorers make up the bulk of the population, but legends persist of deeper-dwelling tribes adapted to the dark. Venturing between enclaves means braving not only the bone-chilling cold and frequent cave-ins, but also the threat of rogue outcasts and aggressive wildlife. Yet in this world, rumors of other survivors are a lifeline, and the search for connection drives many to risk the icy wilds.
