Every step tests the limits of her constructed soul, and her resolve to choose humanity over mere survival.

Protagonist
Seraphina Darkreign
Seraphina Darkreign is a mana construct, a knight warrior built around an ancient soul. Her obsidian eyes are sharp against a pale, stern face, and she moves with calculated precision. Though created as a weapon against darkness, she is developing a hard-won, earnest humanity.
Goal: To reactivate the Seventh Bastion's wards and push back the corruption.
How it begins
Seraphina forces her boots through the knee-high muck, every step sending ripples through the grey-black sludge that covers the Shadowfen. The sullen, coppery stench of decay clings to her armor as she presses deeper, Shadowbane drawn and glowing faintly in her grip. Twisted tree trunks loom to either side, their bark slick with fungal growth that pulses with malignant light. Behind her, the silhouette of the Seventh Bastion’s spire is barely visible through the murk, its holy light waning. Ahead, a low, guttural growl rumbles, too close and too cunning to be mere beast. Seraphina shifts her stance, raising her sword, obsidian eyes scanning for movement. The darkness seems to lean in, waiting for her next move.
About this world
Ebonrealm is an ancient world shaped by a perpetual struggle between tangible darkness and fleeting light. Corruption spreads from the Shadowfen, transforming land and souls, while sacred Bastions hold back the encroaching gloom. Amid political intrigue and scars from past magical wars, hope flickers in bastions and unlikely heroes.
Ebonrealm is a land of deep forests, shattered kingdoms, and ever-shifting borders, perpetually threatened by a sentient, creeping darkness that issues from the vast, tainted Shadowfen. Geography fluctuates according to the strength of local Bastions, ancient holy fortresses radiating purifying light that holds corruption at bay. Where Bastions are strong, life endures: villages cluster beneath their glow, farmers coax crops from hardscrabble earth, and weary travelers barter for blessed charms. In the outer wilds, darkness reigns: twisted trees, corrupted beasts, and spectral hazards comprise a terrain where even the air saps courage and will.
Meridia, the most advanced kingdom, is a bastion of magic and learning, ruled more by powerful mage-scholars than by kings. Here, constructs like Seraphina are engineered, living weapons forged with ancient souls and forbidden magic, tasked to halt the darkness. Across the realm, a network of Bastions stands as the last defense, each a relic of the Harvest Wars, when soul-harvesters ravaged the land and soul crystals were currency, weapon, and curse. The aftermath of these wars is everywhere: traumatized survivors, haunted ruins, and fractured alliances.
Society is wary, pragmatic, and driven by survival. Laws are harsh, but hospitality is sacred, no one survives alone. Magic is both lifeline and taboo, with strict limits on soul manipulation. Constructs are both revered and feared, reminders of humankind’s audacity in shaping life and death. Now, as a mysterious comet approaches, prophecies and omens stir, and the darkness grows restless, testing the resolve of all who still resist.
