Alennah Ashwryer

Human · Last person with ancient magic

Alennah moves with quiet intensity, her storm-grey eyes always searching. Slender and swift, she wears a battered cloak over practical leathers, her dark hair usually caught in a loose braid. Scarred by loss yet fiercely protective, she carries the dignity of forgotten royalty beneath her wary, determined demeanor.

Goal: To escape her pursuers and protect the scroll she carries.

How it begins

Alennah Ashwryer sprinted through the rain-slicked alleys of Terrasen’s lower quarter, clutching a scroll pressed against her ribs. Her boots splashed through mud as cries echoed behind her, soldiers, searching. A sharp corner, a sudden jolt; she ducked beneath a sagging awning, heart pounding, breath ragged. Steam rose from the cobblestones, mingling with the scent of wet wood and distant smoke. She risked a glance out. The shadow of a massive wing flickered overhead, and the few townsfolk in the market shrank back in terror. Alennah pressed her back to the rough stone, trying to calm her thoughts, the scroll warm in her grip. The mark on her palm, the one she always hid, throbbed with urgent heat, almost pulsing in time with the storm above. A flash of lightning caught the glint of black armor in pursuit. Someone shouted her name. She clenched her jaw and forced herself forward, feet pounding, as the first of the soldiers barreled into view.

About this world

The Empyrean Realm is a vast land of storm-battered kingdoms, dragon-haunted skies, and ancient ruins hidden in emerald forests. Power is balanced between war-torn human enclaves and the enigmatic dragons who fly above. Old magics linger, their secrets jealously guarded by both beast and stone.

The Empyrean Realm sprawls across jagged mountain ridges, lush river valleys, and wind-swept plains. Towering citadels and fortified academies perch atop cliffs or nestle deep within shadowed woods, remnants of kingdoms shattered by war. Dragons rule the skies, their presence both protection and threat, lending magic to those they choose and destruction to those who cross them. The dominant society is feudal, with noble Houses clinging to diminished power and a fragile peace enforced by uneasy alliances. Magical ability is rare and monitored closely by the ancient Council, which fears a repeat of the Shadow Wars that nearly destroyed the world.

Terrasen, once a beacon of learning and magic, now lies scarred, a haven for refugees and survivors, watched over by the wary eyes of those who remember the old ways. The common folk whisper of lost royal lines and ancient prophecies, while covert dragonriders train in secret, their true allegiances hidden. Technology is medieval: steel, fire, and leather, with rare magical artifacts carefully hoarded. Daily life is shaped by hard labor, suspicion of strangers, and the ever-present threat of marauders or rogue dragons. The world feels heavy with history; every ruined keep and overgrown road hints at stories left untold.

Magic is elemental, bonded to the land and, most mysteriously, to bloodlines believed extinct. Light and vision magics are almost mythical, feared for the truths they might reveal. The dragons are the only creatures who know the full extent of these forces, but they keep their own counsel. Above it all, an ancient tension thrums, the sense that something powerful and long-lost is waking once more.
