Portrait of Aether

Aether

Naiad · Dancer and Zeus mistress

Aether radiates a delicate strength, her river-blue eyes luminous beneath cascades of silvery hair. Lithe and ethereal, she moves with the grace of flowing water, veiling her unease behind practiced smiles. Her embroidered chiton gleams as she dances, but her glances betray a restless longing for her lost freedom.

Goal: To escape Olympus and return to her home shore.

How it begins

Aether spins across the polished marble, bare feet cooled by the swirling mist that seeps in from the open colonnade. Golden lyres echo through the hall, weaving around her as she arches and bends, every movement watched by gods lounging on couches and nymphs balancing trays of nectar. Hera’s sharp gaze follows her every step, searching for the smallest slip, while Zeus reclines nearby, fingers drumming a restless rhythm. Aether’s breath comes in quiet flutters; sweat beads her brow despite the mountain’s chill. As she lands her final pirouette near the edge of the high dais, a curt nod from Hera signals approval. A servant pushes a goblet into her hands. The sweet, heady scent is unmistakable, ambrosia. Behind her, Zeus calls her name, his voice layered with expectation. Olympus hums with anticipation, and every eye in the hall turns to see what the naiad will do next.

About this world

Mount Olympus towers above the mortal realm, its marble palaces and golden halls ruled by the whims of the Olympian gods. Immortal intrigue shapes every corner, and lesser spirits like nymphs and naiads find themselves at the mercy of divine games. Power, beauty, and danger coexist in this celestial court, where mortal and immortal fates intertwine.

Mount Olympus dominates the sky, its heights veiled in cloud and radiant light. The gods’ palaces shimmer on cliffs, connected by winding stairways and vibrant gardens laced with ambrosia. Cool springs and lush groves feed the land, tended by lesser immortals: naiads, dryads, and satyrs, all subject to the Olympians’ desires. Social order is rigid, the Twelve rule by decree, attended by their children, servants, and mortals brought as prizes. Feasts, contests, and performances mask simmering tensions among the gods, with alliances forming and breaking as quickly as thunder. The naiads, bound to their native waters, often find themselves swept up in divine affairs, losing freedom in the name of beauty or entertainment. Olympus glows with golden excess, but every corner holds secrets: whispered rivalries, unspoken bargains, and the constant threat of godly wrath. Mortal lives are toys; their prayers and sacrifices reach the mount, but the gods’ attention is fickle. Magic is the breath of the land and sea, wielded as effortlessly as conversation. Yet, for those without power, even immortality can feel like a gilded cage.
