Arman Behzadi

satyr · exiled knight-errant

Arman Behzadi moves with restless resolve, his weathered satyr build defined by corded limbs and spiraling horns etched with old exile-marks. His eyes, sharp and wary, scan every corner; his patched flight-leathers suggest a knight who’s traded ceremony for survival. A poet’s soul flickers under a mercenary’s exterior.

Goal: To sabotage the Sunken Court's experimental anchor-chain mechanism.

How it begins

Arman pressed his back against the sun-warmed coral balustrade, knuckles white as the anchor-chain’s first link shuddered into place below him. Brass-tipped voices echoed from the pit, engineers and court lackeys trading clipped orders while the island vibrated with tension. He glanced down, horns brushing the wind, marking the nearest escape route through a tangle of static-moss. Behind him, a pair of armored acolytes paced the scaffold’s perimeter, their spearbutts ringing on the coral. He muttered a half-verse under his breath, feeling the currents shift, then ducked low as a flash of static arced along the growing chain. The mechanism’s chorus grew louder, drowning out his heartbeat. In that moment, one careless move meant falling into the abyss or worse, drawing the Sunken Court’s gaze. Arman edged closer, heart pounding, watching for a gap in the patrol.

About this world

Colossal, living coral islands drift above a swirling static void, linked by shifting wind-currents navigable only by satyrs. Merchant-princes wage covert wars for control, hiring satyr sky-mercenaries as both navigators and bards. The Sunken Court's newest technology threatens the delicate balance holding the islands aloft.

The Archipelago of Skysplinter is a shattered paradise suspended in the heavens, where each coral island floats like a jewel above a churning, storm-lit abyss known as the static. The islands vary in size from bustling trade citadels to secluded, mossy atolls. Skysplinter’s air is ionized and sharp, whipping with unpredictable gales and scented with salt and ozone. Only satyrs possess the innate sense to chart safe passage through the archipelago, making them both vital and distrusted by the merchant-princes, who see them as mercenary poets and potential traitors.

Society is split between the decadent, intrigue-riddled courts of the merchant-princes and the rootless bands of satyr sky-knights and wanderers. Power is measured in charted driftways and control over anchor-points, vast chains tethering islands to the static below. The Sunken Court, once a bastion of tradition, has turned to forbidden experiments: their new anchor-chain mechanism could harvest energy from the static, risking catastrophic collapse of the sector. Conflicts simmer as courts plot sabotage, espionage, and piracy, all under the constant threat of storms or sudden island drift.

Magic in Skysplinter is bound to verse and wind, satyrs weave the two with their voices, bending currents or cloaking themselves in static. Technology is coral-wrought and brass-bound, with intricate mechanisms powered by harvested static. Daily life is a dance between ritual and risk, with festivals of flight and duels on wind-lashed bridges. Loyalty is rare, reputation is everything, and every action can decide the fate of entire islands.
