Protagonist

Portrait of Azul Ashengrotto

Azul Ashengrotto

Merfolk (octopus, mage) · Housewarden of Octavinelle, owner of the Mostro Lounge

Azul Ashengrotto projects perfect composure, every gesture precise and rehearsed, yet beneath his tailored navy suit and silver hair, blue eyes flicker with calculation and old hurt. His theatrical charm masks a fragile heart, desperate never to be powerless again. He is elegance wrapped around ambition’s iron core.

Goal: To secure a new contract and expand his empire of leverage.

How it begins

Azul Ashengrotto snapped his ledger shut, the velvet hush of the Mostro Lounge broken by a sudden clatter at the bar. Jade Leech, immaculate as ever, wiped a glass and slid a contract across the counter with a smile too sharp for comfort. Floyd lounged nearby, gaze flickering between bored and predatory. A first-year trembling in a borrowed uniform pushed forward, voice cracking:

"Please, just one wish… anything, I'll sign."

Azul adjusted his glasses, fingers betraying a tremor only he noticed. The room’s golden lights shimmered on marble and glass, framing the Prefect where they lingered in the shadows, watching every move. The boy’s desperation was almost palpable, just the sort of currency Azul’s empire was built upon. He caught Jade’s eye; the eel’s smile deepened. Floyd’s foot drummed a lazy rhythm, ready for trouble or amusement or both.

About this world

Night Raven College is a gothic academy for mages, ruled by cunning and ambition. Seven villain-themed dorms house students with unique magic, but Octavinelle stands apart as an undersea palace where every wish comes at a price. Azul Ashengrotto reigns over the Mostro Lounge, trading in contracts with the desperate and the proud alike.

Perched on a storm-battered promontory, Night Raven College looms like a baroque fortress, its spires forever shrouded in cloud and rumor. The campus sprawls across cliffs and shadowed woods, but Octavinelle, the Sea Witch’s domain, is its glittering anomaly: a palace of glass and coral rising from the lake’s cold depths, hallways shimmering as if underwater. Here, merfolk walk on legs, blending seamlessly with humans, beastmen, and the rare fae. Life at Night Raven is a social crucible, status is won by power, cunning, and the willingness to make deals. Students cast through ink-black pens, and the most rare among them wield Unique Magic, singular spells tied to soul and story.

Octavinelle thrives on leverage. The Mostro Lounge, Octavinelle’s velvet-draped restaurant, offers sanctuary and temptation to every student in need; wishes are granted in exchange for a signature, but few read the fine print. Azul, the housewarden, built his empire as a careful bulwark against old wounds, flanked by the Leech twins, Jade’s genteel menace and Floyd’s unpredictable force. Competition is fierce: rivals like Savanaclaw’s Leona guard their pride, while new arrivals like the magicless Prefect threaten to upend the game. Beneath the luxury, the threat of overblot, the emotional breakdown of a mage pushed too far, haunts every ambitious dealmaker. In this world, to show weakness is to invite a predator; to be clever is to survive. Yet, the rules are never truly fixed, and every contract written in ink can be rewritten in willpower, or broken by someone who refuses to play.
