Protagonist
Petals
Petals radiates nervous energy, always in motion and never truly silent, their frilled mouth fluttering with anxious words. Their slim, multi-limbed body is sheathed in a glistening membrane, and translucent antennae twitch constantly. Bright, curious eyes dart everywhere, equally eager and apprehensive.
Goal: To reach the relic and observe its activation, to avoid enemy scouts
How it begins
Petals scrambled across the slick surface of a fallen crystal trunk, clutching a sparking resonance rod. Their frilled mouth clicked rapid-fire as they muttered updates into their comm. Behind, acid rain hissed off their protective membrane. A distant explosion rattled the ground, sending a flock of duskwings shrieking skyward. Petals ducked beneath a jagged overhang, eyes darting to the glowing fissure ahead where enemy scouts were closing in. Their mentor’s voice crackled in their earpiece, tense and clipped:
“Petals, stay low! Wait for my signal.”
But Petals, pulse racing, could already see the relic’s glyphs flickering through rain. The enemy squad was nearly on top of it. Petals gripped the rod tighter, antennae trembling, as the violet light intensified and the storm howled louder.
About this world
Vyreth Prime is a storm-battered, mineral-rich world orbiting a dying blue sun. Massive crystalline forests and jagged spires dominate the horizon. Intelligent, diverse alien species vie for control over dwindling resources and mysterious relics left by a vanished civilization. Tensions simmer beneath uneasy ceasefires.
Vyreth Prime is a world in perpetual twilight, its dying sun casting a cool lavender glow over crystalline plains and deep fissures. Towering forests of translucent mineral trees stretch across the landscape, humming with ambient energy. Acidic storms sweep the lowlands, reshaping geography and making travel between settlements perilous. The native species are adapted to harsh conditions: some burrow deep into fissures while others glide between crystal branches. Society is fractured among city-states, each led by a Council of Elders, backed by militant youth eager for dominance. Technology is advanced but unstable, relying on the resonance of local minerals, and those attuned to the planet's energy are both feared and revered. Alien relics, seemingly inert machines embedded within great crystal columns, fuel ongoing conflict between factions, each bent on harnessing their power for war or peace. Commerce is restricted to fortified settlements, where spies and traders mingle under uneasy truces. Daily life is dictated by the rhythm of storms and faction skirmishes, with apprentices like Petals balancing duty, ambition, and survival.
